What are suction machines and what are their uses?

by admin / Monday, 29 April 2024 / Published in Medical Devices

A suction machine, also known as a suction pump or aspirator, is a medical device used to remove secretions, blood, saliva, and other fluids from a patient’s airway or body cavities. It’s commonly used in medical settings such as hospitals, clinics, and ambulances, as well as in home care settings.

Here are some specific uses of suction machines:

Airway Clearance:

Suction machines are frequently used to clear the airway of patients who are unable to clear their own secretions, such as those with respiratory conditions like pneumonia, bronchitis, or cystic fibrosis. This helps maintain airway patency and prevents aspiration.

Surgical Procedures:

During surgical procedures, suction machines are used to remove blood and fluids from the surgical site to maintain visibility for the surgeon and prevent complications.

Emergency Situations:

In emergency situations, such as choking incidents or cardiac arrests, suction machines are used to quickly clear the airway and restore breathing.

Dental Procedures:

Suction machines are commonly used in dental offices to remove saliva, water, and debris from the mouth during procedures.

Home Care:

Suction machines are sometimes prescribed for patients who require ongoing airway clearance due to conditions such as neuromuscular disorders, spinal cord injuries, or advanced respiratory diseases.
